Recognition to support fair migration

Regulated migration requires qualitative information starting from the country of origin. The 2020 Skilled Immigration Act and the opportunities it provides in terms of labour migration to Germany has meant a sharp rise in the demand for information, in particular regarding professional recognition abroad. In light of this, Division 3.3 (“Recognition of Foreign Professional Qualifications”) of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) has worked together with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH to provide digital training on professional recognition for GIZ partner institutions in a total of 12 countries.
GIZ, together with the labour administrations in several countries, has been running advice centres for jobs, migration and reintegration since 2015. The centres provide information for people in these countries regarding opportunities and requirements for migration to Germany for employment and training. The GIZ programme “Migration & Diaspora” strengthens the competencies of GIZ partner institutions in the countries concerned in order to further improve the provision of information.
Between June 2022 and March 2023, a total of 13 training courses helped to boost the work of national institutions and advice centres in order to ensure those interested in migration were provided with information regarding procedures and requirements of professional recognition, as well as further offers of advice, at an early stage. Over 500 participants took part in the training, in particular from national labour administrations and vocational education and training institutions in Albania, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kosovo, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Serbia, and Vietnam. Proof of the success is shown in the entirely positive evaluation by participants and demonstrates the potential for ongoing collaboration to ensure migration is organised in a fair way.
