Support for recognition is being continued

The recognition grant and financial support for training are being continued under new conditions.

The recognition grant and financial support for training are being continued under new conditions since 1 January 2025. This means that, in addition to other funding offers, it is still possible to receive support with recognition procedures for foreign professional qualifications.

The income limits have been raised to €32,000 for single persons and €50,000 for persons assessed jointly for tax purposes. The analogue application process is also gradually being transferred to a digital application procedure.

Financial support is available in the following amounts:

  • Costs incurred as part of the recognition procedure itself (costs of procedure, translations, certifications, assessments) are eligible for funding to a maximum level of €600 per person.
  • Costs of skills analyses are eligible for funding to a maximum level of €1200 per person.
  • Costs of training as part of the recognition procedure (adaptation periods, refresher training, knowledge tests, aptitude tests and the relevant preparation courses and travel costs) are supported to a maximum level of €3,000 per person.

The two areas of financial support which were previously separate are integrated in a common application process. A new application form is provided for this.

Applications for acceptance onto the financial support programme can be submitted for the final time on 30 June 2027 and requests for payment must be made by 30 September 2028 at the latest. For applications submitted up until 31 December 2024, the original deadlines and funding conditions apply as at the time of application; the final date for submitting costs is 30 September 2025.

Function of the recognition grant

For individuals living in Germany with vocational skills obtained abroad, the recognition grant provides support with the recognition of their professional qualifications. Seeking full recognition and employment appropriate to one's level of education not only means improved career prospects at an individual level for the person interested in recognition but, by activating skilled worker resources already existing within the country itself, it is also a response to the shortage of skilled workers at an economic level.
