Round Table begins
The “Round Table for professional recognition” from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research incorporates the expertise of migrant organisations more systematically into specialist discourse.
The “Round Table for professional recognition” from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research incorporates the expertise of migrant organisations more systematically into specialist discourse.
Invited by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, 16 migrant organisations joined social partners, advisory centres and responsible federal and state authorities on 20 May 2021 for the first “Round Table for professional recognition”. Those present were all in agreement – migrant organisations bridge the gap between those interested in recognition and the institutions. They play a significant role in communicating recognition options and this is why they must be given an even stronger voice and actively included.
The first meeting took place online and was dedicated to the key topic of communication. Good examples from practice underlined the contribution of the migrant organisations to successful communication on recognition. This includes holistic and target-specific concepts, volunteer involvement, cultural sensitivity and advice provision in the native language of the applicant. These skills mean migrant organisations are popular contact partners – more and more often for skilled workers abroad too. It is also evident that the often very personal connection and mutual trust shared with the person interested in recognition is a unique feature of migrant organisations.
The first meeting, which lasted a good four hours, ended with many ideas for further work. The next round table will take place, hopefully in person, in the coming year. A report will be published shortly on “Recognition in Germany”.
Background
The Round Table for professional recognition is a measure from the National Action Plan on Integration (NAP-I) of the German Federal Government. The forum “Recognition” emphasised the key role that migrant organisations played in preparing the NAP-I. With the support of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) subsequently initiated the “Round Table for professional recognition”. This discussion format aims to add the expertise of migrant organisations to dialogue with social partners, advisory centres and the responsible federal and state authorities. A further objective is a more systematic incorporation of the organisations’ experiences. As many stakeholders as possible are to be involved thanks to changing topics and formats.
