New occupations ready for take-off

The training regulation and exact title of the German reference occupation are the basis for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications. The new training regulations for dual occupations enter into force on 1 August.

Immersive media designer is the new training occupation that has been added. Immersive media designers create virtual applications in the fields of augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality and 360 degree videos. They produce and implement concepts for virtual worlds.

The following five training occupations have been modernised: 

• Glass apparatus maker
• Motor vehicle body and vehicle construction mechanic
• Plastics and rubber technologist (formerly mechanic in plastics and rubber processing)
• Designer of digital and print media
• Tax clerk

Application for professional recognition possible

Skilled workers can apply for the recognition of their foreign professional qualifications as soon as the training regulations for the new occupations come into force. Information on the German reference occupations can be found in the Recognition-Finder in the Skilled workers section of “Anerkennung in Deutschland”.
