Environmental technologists work in relevant areas of critical infrastructure: They monitor and control water supply and wastewater treatment systems, control sewers or organize the processing and disposal of waste.
Climate change and digitalization as well as new technical and legal requirements have made it necessary to modernize four environmental engineering occupations. Important aspects of the regulation included, for example, the sustainable use of water resources and the treatment of rainwater. The new occupation titles also reflect the increased technical requirements. The new training regulations for dual occupations enter into force on 1 August.
An updated training regulation also entered into force as of 1 August for the following four occupations.
Application for professional recognition possible
The training regulation and exact title of the German reference occupation are the basis for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications. Skilled workers can apply for the recognition of their foreign professional qualifications as soon as the training regulations for the new occupations come into force.
Information on the German reference occupations can be found in the Recognition Finder in the Skilled workers section of „Anerkennung in Deutschland“. The Profi-Filter here in the advisor section also provides information on the responsibility for and details on the recognition procedure.
