In Poland, Margareta Marek was a trained environmental protection engineer. In Germany, she was a single mother with no training and without a job. Today, the 34-year-old is once again working in her profession—all thanks to the Recognition Act.

In Syria she managed her own dental laboratory with six employees. Having fled her native country for Germany, she completed a skills analysis as well as refresher training, and today she is once again working in her profession.

Kibrom Gebreyesus was able to complete a skills analysis to show that the training he received in his home country of Eritrea is equivalent to the German occupation of industrial mechanic. This meant that an absence of certificates and documentation did not present any obstacle to obtaining recognition for his vocational qualification.

Judith Yawa Aggor-Edorh has lived in Germany since 2004. She has started a family here and also obtained recognition for her Ghanean qualification in order to be able to work as a custom tailor.

Jigar Hasso is a trained cook who fled to Germany from Syria in 2013. In 2015, he obtained recognition of his vocational qualification via a skills analysis.

Fares Schammas from Syria applied for asylum in Germany in 2001. Having initially done a lot of temporary casual jobs, since 2015 he has been able to work as a joiner, the occupation in which he trained.

Eric Appiah is from Ghana and came to Germany in 2014. He started out as an auxiliary worker but advanced within the company to become a skilled worker once he had obtained recognition for his vocational qualification.

Bashkim Maksutaj moved to Kiel in November 2016, where his wife was already living. Just one year later he obtained full recognition of his training in Kosovo as a motor vehicle mechatronics technician.

Azem Ceka is a car varnisher who came to Germany in 1998. He worked as a salaried employee before starting his own business. Recognition has enabled him to acquire a master craftsman qualification.

It was a real culture shock for Ammar Allaham when he arrived in Germany. However, this friendly Syrian overcame all adversity and is now working as a dental technician once again.
